BCAA and EAA in Nepal

Intra-workout amino acids sit in a slightly awkward category: they are sold as training support, but almost everything they provide is already in a complete protein powder. Here is the honest version of what they do and when they are worth adding.

Before you buy

What actually matters.

BCAA is three amino acids

BCAA stands for the branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. They are already present in a complete protein powder.

EAA is the full set

Essential amino acids cover all nine, not just the three branched-chain ones, which is why some people prefer them intra-workout.

Mostly a question of context

If you already drink a complete protein shake around training, a separate BCAA adds little that the protein was not already providing.

Quick checklist

Before you tap order.

  • Check whether the product is BCAA or EAA — the label should make it obvious.
  • Look for a declared dose in grams, not just a proprietary blend total.
  • Compare cost per serving against a complete protein powder, which is usually better value for the same purpose.

All FAQs →

Do I need BCAA if I already take whey?

Generally no. Whey is a complete protein and already contains all three BCAAs plus the other essential amino acids, so a separate BCAA product is largely redundant unless your total protein intake is very low.

What is the difference between BCAA and EAA?

BCAA covers leucine, isoleucine and valine. EAA covers all nine essential amino acids. Since essential amino acids cannot be made by the body, having the full set available is the reason EAA is often positioned as the more complete option.

When should I take amino acids?

Most people use them during training, mixed into water in a shaker bottle. If you are taking a protein shake either side of training, they are optional rather than essential.
